What a hair transplant is
Hair at the back and sides of the scalp is genetically resistant to pattern hair loss. A transplant moves follicles from this donor area to the hairline, temples, crown or other thinning areas, where they keep growing for life. Success is not just about the number of grafts: the hairline position, density, angle and direction of every graft decide whether the result looks natural.
FUE or DHI: which technique?
Both techniques extract follicles one by one, so there is no linear scar.
- FUE (follicular unit extraction): grafts are placed into tiny openings made in the recipient area. Efficient for larger areas such as the front and crown together. Procedure time is about 6 to 8 hours.
- DHI (direct hair implantation): each graft is placed with a Choi implanter pen that opens the skin and implants the follicle in one motion. It gives fine control over angle and depth, suits hairlines and adding density between existing hair, and can often be done without shaving the whole head. Typical sessions are 1,000 to 3,000 grafts.
Many plans use both. Your doctor recommends the technique after looking at your hair, donor area and goals.
What a hair transplant can treat
- A receding hairline and thinning temples
- Crown (vertex) baldness
- Male pattern hair loss at any stage where donor hair allows
- Selected, stable female pattern hair loss, often with DHI and no shaving
- Patchy or thin beards, moustache and sideburns
- Thin or over-plucked eyebrows
- Scars in hair-bearing areas
Beard and eyebrow transplant
Beard transplant: follicles from the back of the scalp fill patches or build a fuller beard, moustache or sideburns. Patchy areas often need 500 to 1,500 grafts and a full beard 2,000 to 3,000. The procedure takes about 5 to 7 hours, redness lasts 5 to 7 days and the beard looks mature at 8 to 12 months.
Eyebrow transplant: single-hair grafts are placed one by one at a very flat angle to rebuild brows thinned by over-plucking, scars or genetics. Most people need 150 to 300 grafts per brow, in about 3 to 4 hours. We first rule out medical causes of brow loss, such as thyroid or skin conditions.
Beard and eyebrow transplants are priced by the number of grafts, with a fixed written quote after a doctor reviews your photos.
How many grafts do I need?
It depends on the size of the thinning area, your existing density, donor quality, hair thickness and the density you want. As a rough guide, hairline and temple work is often up to about 1,500 grafts, and the front and crown together 3,000 to 4,000. A 1,500, 3,000 or 4,000 graft number online is only a starting point: the right count is confirmed after a doctor examines your scalp, so the donor area is not over-harvested and enough remains for the future.
Hairline and crown restoration
A natural hairline is irregular, soft at the front and suited to your face, age and likely future hair loss. A hairline that is too low or too straight can look unnatural as you get older, so ours are drawn by the doctor and agreed with you before the procedure. The crown needs careful planning because hair there grows in a swirl, and grafts are spread to give the most visible coverage.
How the procedure works
- Consultation and hairline design: scalp and donor assessment, graft estimate and a fixed written quote.
- Procedure day: local anaesthesia, extraction from the donor area, then implantation following the planned angle and density.
- Aftercare: medication, an aftercare kit, the first wash and early check-ups.
- Follow-up: reviews while the new hair grows, with PRP sessions included in the packages.
Recovery and results timeline
- Days 1 to 7: small scabs and redness; most people return to desk work after 5 to 7 days.
- Weeks 2 to 8: transplanted hairs shed. This is normal; the follicles stay in place.
- Month 3: new growth starts.
- Month 6: a clear change for most patients.
- Months 12 to 18: final density and texture.
Mild tightness or soreness for two to three days is common and managed with simple pain relief.
Who is a good candidate?
A transplant suits people with stable, permanent hair loss and enough healthy donor hair. If hair loss is still active, or the cause is medical (for example low iron, thyroid problems, hormones or stress), we usually treat that first, and many patients combine surgery with medical treatment or PRP to protect their own hair around the grafts.
Hair transplant, PRP or a hair loss package?
Where hair is already gone, a transplant restores it; a package helps protect your own hair around the grafts.

Hair transplant for women
Women usually lose hair as a widening parting or thinning across the top, often with a medical driver such as low iron, thyroid changes, hormones, stress or postpartum shedding. Treatment starts with a scalp assessment and blood tests. PRP and medical treatment come first; for suitable, stable cases a DHI transplant without shaving can add density.
Questions to ask any clinic
- Who designs the hairline, and who performs each step?
- Is the clinic licensed by the Dubai Health Authority?
- How many grafts will be taken, and is my donor area enough for the future?
- Is the quote fixed, and what is included?
- Who sees me for follow-up during the growth period?
A lower price abroad can cost more once you add travel, time off, limited follow-up and any repair. Treatment in Dubai lets you see the same doctor throughout the growth period.

Questions people ask
How much does a hair transplant cost in Dubai?
At Skin & Laser by DrypSkin in Dubai Marina, FUE Package 1 (up to 1,500 grafts) is AED 14,000 + VAT and FUE Package 2 (3,000 to 4,000 grafts) is AED 18,000 + VAT, including PRP sessions, follow-up and free ultrasonic and LED therapy.
Is a hair transplant permanent?
Transplanted follicles come from areas resistant to pattern hair loss, so they usually keep growing for life. Your non-transplanted hair can still thin over time, which is why surgery is often combined with medical treatment or PRP.
Does a hair transplant hurt?
It is done under local anaesthesia. Most people feel the injections for the first few minutes and then only pressure. Mild tightness for two to three days afterwards is common.
When will I see results?
Transplanted hairs usually shed in weeks two to eight, new growth starts around month three, most people see a clear change by month six, and the final result appears at 12 to 18 months.
FUE or DHI: which is better?
Both use the same extraction step. FUE is efficient for larger areas; DHI uses an implanter pen for precise angle and depth and suits hairlines and unshaven density work. Many plans use both.
Is it cheaper to have a hair transplant in Turkey?
Package prices abroad can be lower, but add travel, time off, limited follow-up and the cost of any repair. In Dubai you see the same doctor for check-ups throughout the growth period.
Is a hair transplant covered by insurance in the UAE?
Transplants for pattern hair loss are usually considered cosmetic and are not covered. Some reconstructive cases, such as scars from injury, may be assessed differently.
