How lip filler works
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar found naturally in the skin that holds water. Filler made from it is placed in small amounts into the lip body and border with a fine needle or cannula, adding volume and structure where it is needed. Over time the body breaks it down naturally.

- Add volume to thin lips or lips that have lost fullness with age
- Define the lip border (vermilion) and Cupid's bow
- Balance uneven or asymmetric lips
- Soften fine lines around the mouth
- Improve hydration and the look of dry lips
Natural results first
Our doctors plan the shape and amount with you before treatment and usually start conservatively. Many people begin with about 1 ml; more can be added at a review once the lips have settled. Filler can be dissolved if needed; see lip filler dissolving.
What to expect
Numbing cream is applied first, and most fillers also contain a local anaesthetic. Swelling is normal for 2 to 3 days and small bruises can appear. We review your result after about two weeks.
Aftercare
- Avoid heat, saunas, intense exercise and alcohol for 24 hours
- Do not massage or press the lips unless your doctor asks you to
- Avoid dental treatment for about two weeks
- Contact us straight away if you notice unusual pain or colour change in the skin
Who should not have lip filler
Lip filler is not done during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active cold sore or infection, or with certain medical conditions. If you get cold sores, tell your doctor; preventive medication may be advised.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme if you are unhappy with the result or it has moved.

Filler adds volume and shape. A lip flip relaxes the upper lip muscle so more of the lip shows, without adding volume.
