How the treatment works
The laser's light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and turns into heat, which disables the follicle that produces it. Cooling protects the surface of the skin. Because hair grows in cycles, only actively growing hairs respond at each visit, which is why a course of sessions is needed.

Number of sessions
Men's hair is usually thicker and denser, so most areas need 8 or more sessions. Hormone-driven areas such as the back, shoulders and beard line may need one or two top-ups a year to stay smooth.
Treatment frequency
Sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for the body and about 4 weeks for the face and neck, so each visit catches a new group of hairs in their growth phase.
Preparation
Shave the area the day before, and avoid waxing, plucking or threading for 4 weeks so the root stays in place. Keep the area out of the sun for 2 weeks.

Aftercare
Mild redness and bumps settle within hours. Skip the gym, sauna and hot showers for 24 to 48 hours and use SPF 50 on exposed areas.

Pain and discomfort
Coarse hair absorbs more energy, so men may feel a stronger snap and warmth than with fine hair, especially on the back and beard line. Contact cooling and comfort settings keep it tolerable, and it gets easier as the hair thins over the course.
